Transcendence in relations to the objective quality of our being itself rather then transcending a physical obstacle is an aspect of cosmology both within us as a microcosm and in the great universe. Though I study it as seven levels of reality many consider just two commonly referred to as the macrocosm and the microcosm. Artists have tried to express this relationship in their paintings.

My favorite two paintings that deal with levels of reality are "Chaos" by Aivasovsky and "In the Heart of the Andes" by Frederic Church.

This painting depicts the vertical cosmological descent of the Spirit into creation and into the world as described in Genesis 1.

Frederic Church depicts the relationship between the macro and microcosm. Each insect is a microcosm and plainly visible within the macrocosm of the Andes.

Do you have any favorite paintings that depict a cosmological relationship between levels of reality where the lower exists in relation to the higher including the path that the lower could become a higher?
