Re: Science and God
What is the point of proving ourselves? Just another act of: Im better than you" Ego mind trash, should be tossed out. While you seem to make a sport of it....
Competition with others? Compete with yourself, Emerson stated as so...
Ok, enough with applying to English class talk, enough with freewrite
I thought you were going to GTFO yourself? Why are you slobbering back with your unproven, childish, unsophisticated comments?
And you ask why the hell we use foul language? Because we are still mortal, and mortals still have a fucking limit. Youre trespassing the limit by accussing us of terms that have no evidence whateverso that applies to us. You start this bullshit by accusing passionate/intelligent individuals like Nick and steve, and then you tell us this forum is a place where intellect should be presented? Then why the fucking hell did you start this flame war by saing: Oh steve your a fool? For no particular reason? Just because he doesnt agree with your demented thinking? Fuck, no one can, because you cant accept no shit but your own shit.
Get your sorry ass face off this forum, and dont bother coming back with petty retorts...

Patience, good friends
Lets not reward boorish behavior with our own. A persons insults can be taken or left, and I choose not to sell my peace of mind too cheaply. There is an expected behavior and I won't quickly defend those who belittle others - but a little compassion should always go with our reapproachment.
So if anything is to be gained here, it is a 'learning' moment'. Understand that the egoic mind thrives on conflict. When it senses its essential illusionary nature it seeks conflict where ever it can to make itself more real. Of course this can be a life long process -and a very sad thing -unless the spell of seperateness is somehow weakened. I am sure everyone of you can recognize many people who go out of their way to be arguementative and combative. If you understand that, while not at all approving this behavior, that they (though they probably never will admit it) are pretty miserable -then we can afford a little compassion.
In essense everyone is of the same pure and decent nature and that should be remembered.
I will remark on the comment that 'middle aged people should be mature'.Here's my comment: Maturity has very little to do with chonological age! I attest that most of you are FAR more mature than most middle aged people I know.
I also will admit that I loved (BC's ?) point to Mr. Bob about quoting others.
And Bob, whether you come or go is of no concern to me. Should you go then I wish you well. If you stay, then civility is expected -but I warn that I never will have your education or grasp of complex philosophical theories. The world I see is full of trees, birds and people -not a belief or theory in sight -and I shall remain a contented and happy fool for the rest of my days.
Peace to all,
Om Shanti

^That.
Guys, seriously. If someone insults you and you insult him back in the same manner, both parties are at fault. If someone wants to act ridiculous by insulting everyone he sees, let him do it on his own. Spirit is good, but not if it's used in the wrong way. I sound like the annoying peacemaker type right now, I know, but I do have some fault here too; I've typed out insulting comments before. Let's just...take it easy, now, okay? This isn't a healthy discussion... x_x
...And at any rate, this thread should seriously be deleted and have all the relevant questions posed by Nick and Steve (and probably some others) moved elsewhere. It's turned into a flame war with no substance whatsoever.

Re: Science and God
You are not genius kids, but spoiled little brats with a computer, and internet access. You are immature little brats, and I mean that with every key stroke. Good riddance, I will talk to the genius kids on college, and university campuses at least they understand something, and can talk about it, instead of wanting to fight about it. If you had half the brain a genius had, well we would not be fighting about it but arguing about it, and maybe you would pick up a dictionary, and use it. Good Riddance to you spoiled little brats. Who are told you are genius, but have yet to prove it to the 39 year-old with the experience you, so preach, get a clue.

Steve!
Finals are finally over and summer is just around the corner! That means that I have time to post on the forum! Well, to completely ignore the irrelevant 'discussions' that took place above this post and to go straight to the point, I have a question about your topic "Science and God."
If we think about it in terms of power and control, aren't science and God the same thing? People who are self-proclaimed 'scientific' believe in the power of science and the laws of science as answers to creation, evolution, and the problems the world is facing today as well as the potential that any organism can have. In the same way, Christians and other religious believers, thought they may believe in the infinite possibilities of the 'miracles' of their gods and religions, are still attributing the position of 'being the answer to everything' to God. Thus, in both cases, the individual is giving control to external sources and influences--basically saying that fate DOES INDEED exist.
This is something that we have been talkiing about in our English class lately and it was one of the questions on the English final: Why do people tend to believe in fate?
What I wrote was that people believe in fate--science, God, or whoever--because it frees them of the responsibility and blame for the things taht have gone wrong in their lives. By saying that another EXTERNAL source is influencing one's life and ultimately has the most authority over one's life is a form of escape and cowardice. This justifies our complaints and whining because "since there IS a fate, what could I have done about THAT? In the real scheme of things, I am just as powerless as an ant in the face of a human being." However, that is total crap...that is such an overused excuse! I mean it's good to have faith in God or something else (I myself is a Catholic ), but that doesn't mean that we aren't in control of our own lives or that we can't change.
Therefore, the in their purest forms, science and religion (God) may just be the different ways in which one understands the world. Yet, in both systems, there is the possibility of scientific advancement or miracles. And these don't just happen because some external authority made it happen--it happens because of us, because we BELIEVE. And thus, when we have taken control and are starting to create our own realities with our strong-held beliefs, we are taking possesion of our infinite potential and being ENPOWERED!
And like you said, a reality already exists before these belief systems--that reality is Essence, our part in the Collective Essence, and the infinite potential that comes with that.

Bob.
So we're immature.
So we're spoiled brats that don't know shit.
Doesn't change anything.
You're still a dick wad.
Oh and by the way, once we get bored of ripping at you, we'll change your user name to "Sean Puffy Nipples"
Then we will ban you.
Bye.

To Bob
Hello there.
As the site admin and one of the students of the class, I feel that I have an obligation to place an ip ban on you.
But that wouldn't be in good taste now would it? Let us think maturely for a moment. Surely there must be some reason for a man of your intellectual genius to come down to a relatively unknown forum with such a small user base and enlighten us all with your knowledge. Now what could that reason possibly be?
Sure, it may be true that we do not fully understand what we're talking about before we type up lengthy posts with assertive tones. As our own teacher said, "honestly, what do 16 year olds know about the true meaning of life?"
Judging from your profile, you are likely a disgruntled university philosophy student who one day decided to play a game of "you rage you lose" on the internet.
Apparently, you forgot what you were going up against, and you lost. We are still learning, we make mistakes. It seems that those of our age often make the common mistake of implementing a "I am right, you are wrong" tone in whatever it may be that we are discussing.
I understand your desire to troll us. However, be aware of the following:
1)There will always be communities on the internet that people like you will take as an insult to your intelligence
2)At the same time, there will always be groups that will make your knowledge seem as inferior as the fleck of dust at the corner of your room
It is entirely up to you to decide whether participation in community 1 or 2 would be more worth your while.
With that in mind....
"The wise are instructed by reason, average minds by experience, the stupid by necessity, and the brute by instinct."
Marcus Tullius Cicero (106 B.C.E.-43 B.C.E.)
That's your forum signature, though it appears that you have disabled it.
Your actions in this forum make me wonder which category you would fall under if you were to be classified based on these standards.
Does your reasoning tell you that we are a threat? Or do you feel a mere necessity to satisfy your need of flaming stupid people, or according to the quote above, people at your own level?
I have given you a display picture that should well describe your character. I'll make my final remarks/rules simple:
-If you remove/change your avatar, you will be banned.
-Stick with the image and learn to do something better than live up to what it speaks of, and you may remove/change it and stay (whether you want to or not)
-If you are inactive for over 2 days, I will automatically delete your account.
Make your choice.

On the contrary, I would expect much more from a person with such an understanding of philosophy as you. Tell me, what exactly did you learn in your studies that made you think that spending time to flame high school students is at all worth while?Bob wrote:I'll take my leave as immaturity is the norm in this forum. I may not have agreed with you, or you me, but I did not see one original work from students to vistors' of this forum. That is a shame as I expected more from honor students.
