I Have a Dream - Page 2 Empty Re: I Have a Dream

Post  AllenFang Thu May 21, 2009 3:38 pm

Hey 10th grade english honors,
Jt invited me to join this forum because he wanted me to reply his question about pursuing our dreams.
I would like to share a dream i recently had and achieved just two nights ago. For those who are not aware, i ran for
Interact President. At first, it was just a dream, a goal and a destination. However, after falling in love and being obsessed with
this goal, i decided to go after my dream. After 3 years of hard work in this club, i recieved an email of being the next president of Interact for the year 09 to 10.
Anyways to answer Jts question, i believe that in order to make our dreams come true we would need to put our soul, heart and mind into pursuing the dream. After all, we did send a man into space and plant a flag on the moon. Also, i encourage all members of the forum who read this should pursue their dreams no matter what obstacles there are.

haha nice allen. Anyways, i agree with josh. To watch this guy dance, around the world, it should make all people pursue their dreams. Even if you don't succeed, you still always gain something. It's like in the movie PEACEFUL WARRIOR, where i learned that it is not the ending of a journey that makes a person happy, it is the journey itself. Who knows, maybe by pursuing your dream, you will be able to open new paths in your life

First of all, i had a dream to play in the NBA, like the boy J.T. is talking about. That probably won't happen, but i will always try to keep up basketball.
My second dream, is with music. I don't plan to use music as a profession, but i want to be able to use music to touch people's lives, to help people through music. This is one of my dreams, and i have played piano and violin for 10 and 9 years respectively.

Anyways, i will always believe that people should pursue their dreams no matter what, and should never give up their dreams. Its like the guy in the video. He probably has had times when something has happened that jeopardized his chances of going around the world. I watched one movie maybe....dunno 3 years ago?

called THE Rookie. It was a baseball movie, but the plot fits in perfectly with the question. There was this kid who loved baseball (true story) and he played all through the years, until finally, his dad had to move for the 5 time to texas, where there was no baseball. However, the kid's dream was to play in the MLB, and, like the story, he got hurt, had 3 surgeries on his shoulder and quit, became a high school science teacher and baseball coach. However, one day, his team made him a challenge. If they were to win the high school state championship, then the coach (kid) would try out for a MLB team. They did win, and when the coach started to pitch again, he found out that he could throw 98 miles/per. He did make the team, and played for two years.

Now, if the coach had quit, do you think he would have lived a happy life? According to the movie, he wasn't. Once he got onto the baseball team again, he became happy. I think this shows that by pursuing dreams, you are actually happier than when you give up.

HAHAH Very Happy i love that guy! hes awesome. i think the law of attraction is in work right now, cause right after i watched that video i felt happy and optimistic. This leads to a thought somethign i thought about - i think we should just take things one step at a time. Don't just jump to the goal "AH I HAVE TO BE IN THE NBA!" i mean that can be your OVERALL goal..but break it down and take it one step at a time. Sometimes when we have these BIG and what-may-seem-as-impossible dreams in our minds, therefore causing us to doubt or lose hope or lose faith in ourselves for achieveing this goal...but if we chop it into smaller, more easily done goals that lead to the main goal, wouldn't it be much easier? This is like balancing between using your mind and your Essence - the main goal (making the NBA) is propelled through/by your essence, and then your mind puts it/ breaks it down to ways that help you successfully make the NBA. Sometimes we look for the wrong things, and thats why taking things one step at a time will help you reach what it is you actually want. This also insures that you LIVE your life without just focusing on your dream cause when you break it down, it is easier to balance between what you need to do, and what you want to do. And who knows, maybe while yorue experiencing / journeying through the steps needed to get towards your goal, you might find satisfaction and reach contentment in some other thing flower

So, Luoh, if we were to follow our dreams, it would ultimately make us happier? That seems like it's obvious--I mean, who would be SAD to follow their dreams Razz. Not to be a pessimist or anything, how would you know that you would be better off following your dreams when you have never tried not following them? The question could be asked vice versa too. If you haven't experienced something, you would not know how it would have been. Like imagine a situation where you could either join a world-class orchestra or play in the NBA, as a once in a lifetime chance. In joining one, you wouldn't know what the other would be like, and you might never know. Like what JT said, live life without regrets. I guess this is why people pursue the roads to happiness--especially those whose goals in life are contentment. But sometimes there are just those limiting physical factors in reaching them. If you were trapped in an unbreakable cage, and your dream was to find a way to break it, would you be able to? How badly do you need to want something in order to get it?

Dear Diary,

Today, while i read peoples replies, i realized that many times in life its not because we can't, its because we think we can't, therefore we dont try, therefore we dont succeed. I found a bunch of quotes in the feild of self belief. I believe these topics are relevent to our discussion.

Self belief is a positive tonic that helps people grow beyond their dreams. A collection of the best Self Belief Quotes to help you believe in yourself.

In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can.

Frank Zappa

Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.

I Have a Dream - Page 2 Empty Re: I Have a Dream

Post  Joshua Thu May 21, 2009 10:49 pm

Hey, regarding to proey's post, if one is caught in a physical cage and dreamed of breaking the cage, i think it is still possible. Afterall, the cage is built by humans, it is not built by the other powers which humans cannot control. We have often times built our own cages and close ourselves in. Just as the society too does this, the society often times builds cages like mental restrictions by the way they bring up the young, and making them forget that the cages which they believe they live in is built by an external force of super being or somesort. However, this is not the case, the case is that the cage is built solely by humans for humans to keep people under control. This is often times the dark side of the societies, people of great power gets greedy of being in power, and they make rules to fit themselves to supress and keep the others under control.

SO, if the cage was built by the humans, then it is definately possible to break through the cage and chase after a "true" goal, one that roots from one's being. How badly does one need to be to break the cage? As badly as one believes that the cage cannot be broken.

Afterall, the important point is not to think about and talk about chasing goals or coming up with goals and dreams; the important aspect is to actually chase after the dream and walk the talk.

Post  JTizzel Thu May 21, 2009 11:39 pm

I agree with josh. Humans can always break through what other humans created for each other, hardship, adversities, pressure, etc. Humans are in the same dimension as each other. The "Cage" proey mentioned is most likely caused by other humans or many times caused by oneself. If one again, has the right mentality, has the desire to acheive, and has the want to go, then sure, humans are able to break out of this cage.

Regarding proeys second question. How much of this desire is required for one to break out of this cage? It is hard to take this question in a physical sense because it isnt tangable. Nor is it measurable. Many things in life are not quantitative. What if i ask someone, how much love do you have for your girlfriend? He would either say a lot, a little, or non. All these are relative measurements, but they are not precise. They do not realistically measure out a quantity of how much love one has for another. Same in this case. One can not measure how much desire in order to break out this cage humans set for each other while humans set for themselves. It is if this desire exists. I have a theory of three levels: The physical, the mental, and the universal. The mental is where people might have many desires: I WANT THIS I WANT THAT. But then, i reckon, if this desire is with only the mind, it can not be fully achieved. Moving a tree takes not the mind thinking to move the tree, but the connection of ones being with the tree. Same here, it is not thinking about something that can make it happen, it is more of connecting with something that will make it attracted to you. Thus, once the non local motivates, inspires, provides intuition in some way, the physical is there as a tool to function with other humans to acheive what one wants, the mind is a tool to help one analyze different solutions in order to achieve success.

Yeah, I agree JT. On the mental level, people may still be hindered by obstacles, because it would be a lusty desire, something that does not come from deep within, from the Intuition. Would people be able to know if their wants are merely mind-driven, or if they are based on the universal consciousness? Is this when we distinguish feeling and thought? Maybe we were meant to stay in the cage--then how are we supposed to get out? Wait, that plays into fate, which, all of us have the freedom within fate, so we can break it. What would allow us to break our "fate"? Our Intuition?

Going back to the original story of the bball player, he might have been fated to break his knee. But there is that freedom of choice that he has, the freedom to choose what comes next. Either thing he chooses--playing NBA, or becoming a professor--would be his fate... right? Does our Intuition lead us to one straight path that only our minds make us deviate from?

Okay, I might not be making sense, it's very late Razz. Hee

I think this is a quote that pretty much sums up the answer to the boys question about achieving his goal. It is what the Secret was talkinga bout- the law of attraction. If the boy thinks he is the NBA player, he will constatnly make decisions that lead him towards that direction cause he is attracted to it. If he thinks hes not the NBA player, then every chance he gets to become the NBA player, he will feel "oh im not gonna make it.." and give up, therefore not able to achieve their dream. This also relates to the CQ + PQ > IQ. One has to have passion towards what they want in order to gain it because if they were just passive, they wouldnt make the necessary steps to make their dream happen. One's reality is based upon their own actions --> one creates their own life. cheers

I Have a Dream - Page 2 Empty I AM MY DREAM

Post  JTizzel Mon May 25, 2009 11:52 pm

After a week length of discussion, or may I say, a lifelong innate debate within me, I have reached a conclusion. I titled my question,”I Have a Dream” yet I titled my freewrite/summary,” I am My dream” There is an important distinction made within our discussion. The distinction is the difference between giving in and giving up, difference between failing and succeeding, the difference between having others control one’s life or having absolute control over one’s destiny.
No matter what, a dream is a goal, a dream is what people live for, a dream is pathway to bliss, content, and happiness. Yet, people many times do not persue it because they may think it is too hard, external forces bound and limit an individual, or just an internal lazyness of giving up before trying. This is the first stage: One is aware of his control over his own life. This is justified by the matrix and by the Secret, which is also known as the law of attraction and the power of the mind. Thoughts create reality. An individual creates his own reality. No matter what is stopping him, No matter what external forces are setting the limits, no matter what, if one has dream, he or she persues it.
There are two paths leading from this dream chase: Success and Failure. As Oscho said before failing to endure the New is not failure, it is the process that matters and even trying to take in the new is success. Thus, pursuing the dream and succeeding is success, pursuing the dream and failing is also success. Thus, why not give it a shot. In my discussion I layed out the fact that trying is the bridge from one island connecting to two separate ways: One failure and the other success, yet both are success. The is the process of crossing the bridge that is important, in other words, it is the process of trying, giving it a shot that matters, not what happens. This leads to another strong conlusion in our discussion. Live life without regrets. A life with regrets is a one who fails to try. A life with regrets is one who gives up. This leads to another distinction: the difference between giving up and backing off.
The island metaphore I have asserted in the discussion is simply a car honking after one’s car when crossing this bridge of trial and error. If one gives up due to frustration, parents, teachers, discouragement, then the car will turn back into the beginning, into a land of regrets, yet the dream is still off on the other island. Giving up is permenant. Giving up is a fixed mentality of discouraging one’s self, suppressing one’s own limits to satisfy others, to satisfy the society, and most importantly, to satisfy the corruption that has accumulated in one’s own mind, the ego mind, the gross mind, the overdriven mind. Backing off the when others are honking after you, one drives into the margins and takes a water break until traffic is more drivable, when people are more friendly. It a temporary act of taking a break, catching one’s breath, yet, the persuit of dreams is still running, the car is still driving, one’s life is still pumping.
So in the end, it all comes back to mentality. When one truly knows that he is the soul, he is the being, he is the origin, not the physical, not the ego mind, not the external, not the society, one is truly in control of his life. No matter what teachers, parents, printers, lights, clocks, time, dictionaries, etc tell one to change one, to form one, to reconstruct one, to diversify one, to refocus one, to confuse one, to analyze one, to terminate one from his dream, he or she will say,” I AM in control, NOT YOU” No one can stop one from persuing content, from persuing bliss, but oneself. No one can stop me from being a NBA player but myself.

I do not have a dream. I am my dream.

Thanks ya'll fo cotribootin to ma discooshion 'bout ma dream.
Life life without regrets,
Peace out
